Business Strategy
PolyMedix has a combination of advanced anti-infective and Heptagonist lead product development programs, plus a computational drug design technology platform that is capable of generating new products that can create a sustainable product pipeline. Having many products could provide many ways to generate revenues and minimize risk. Furthermore, we believe the first four products being developed by PolyMedix are all relatively low-cost, low-risk, rapid development and risk-independent programs. These include: (i) PMX-30063 systemic i.v. antibiotic drug, (ii) PMX-60056 i.v. heptagonist drug, (iii) PMX-30063 ophthalmic formulation antibiotic drug and (iv) PMX-50003 and PMX-70004 bactericidal polymer biomaterials.
Our general commercialization strategy for these product candidates, if regulatory approval is obtained, is to:
- Build an infectious disease and acute cardiovascular business with a specialty sales force to market these product candidates ourselves to hospitals in North America;
- Develop the primary care and international sales opportunities for infectious disease and acute cardiovascular products by out-licensing the sales and marketing of such product candidates to companies with primary care and/or international pharmaceutical market experience;
- Explore potential topical and oral antibiotic applications, including ophthalmic (eye) infections; gastrointestinal infections; skin infections such as acne; oral healthcare applications for treatment of periodontal (gum) disease; and treatment of fungal infections; by seeking out-licensing relationships with major pharmaceutical companies;
- Further develop polymer derivatives of the antimicrobial compounds for a variety of non-therapeutic biomaterials applications as licensing opportunities for medical device, industrial, and consumer product uses; and
- Develop an angiogenesis inhibitor for use in fighting age related macular degeneration (AMD) and cancer. This development program will either be in cooperation with partners through joint venture or out-licensing arrangements or on our own, depending on our financial resources.
